Owner & Co-Founder, Beacon Behavioral Health

Dr. David Byrnes is a Board-Certified Psychiatrist dedicated to helping children, teens, and adults achieve emotional balance, confidence, and wellbeing. As the owner and co-founder of Beacon Behavioral Health in Charlottesville, Virginia, Dr. Byrnes combines medical expertise with compassion and a deep respect for each person’s story.

Dr. Byrnes completed his undergraduate studies at Duke University and earned his Medical Degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. Drawn to the complexity and humanity of mental health, he went on to complete his General Psychiatry Residency at the University of Virginia, where he trained across multiple clinical areas including Pediatric and Adult Neurology, Emergency Medicine, Toxicology, Endocrinology, and Internal Medicine.

Following residency, Dr. Byrnes was accepted into a two-year Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Virginia, where he was honored to serve as Chief Fellow. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in both General Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.

Dr. Byrnes has extensive experience treating a wide range of psychiatric conditions, including:

  • Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

  • Autism Spectrum and Pervasive Developmental Disorders

  • Anxiety and Depression

  • Bipolar Disorder

  • Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)

  • Psychotic and Mood Disorders

He is known for his collaborative and family-centered approach, helping patients understand their challenges while building practical strategies for growth and recovery.

In addition to his work at Beacon, Dr. Byrnes serves as Consulting Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Keswick School, providing ongoing care to students with complex psychiatric needs.

Outside of work, Dr. Byrnes enjoys spending time with his family, exploring the outdoors, and staying active in the Charlottesville community.

Pamela Byrnes, dnp, pmhnp-bc

Doctor of Nursing Practice, Board-Certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Pamela Byrnes is a Board-Certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Co-Founder of Beacon Behavioral Health in Charlottesville, Virginia. With more than 15 years of experience in both medical and psychiatric care, Pamela is known for her calm, compassionate presence and her deep commitment to helping individuals and families find balance, resilience, and healing.

Pamela provides care for children, adolescents, and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, mood disorders, and life transitions. She takes a thoughtful, collaborative approach, combining evidence-based practice with genuine empathy and understanding. Her goal is to ensure every patient feels supported and empowered on their path to wellness.

Pamela earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice and Master of Nursing Practice in Psychiatric Mental Health from the University of Virginia, where she also completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She began her career in the Medical Intensive Care Unit at UVA Medical Center before transitioning into psychiatry, where she found her calling working with children and families.

In addition to her work at Beacon, Pamela serves as Manager of Psychiatric Mental Health Advanced Practice Providers at UVA Psychiatry, where she mentors clinicians and helps lead initiatives to expand access to quality mental health care across Virginia.

Her writing has been published in Virginia Legacy Magazine and the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, and she remains active in community programs supporting youth, families, and mental health advocacy.

Outside of work, Pamela enjoys spending time with her family, volunteering, and exploring the natural beauty of Central Virginia.


Gina condi, pmhnp-bc

Board-Certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Gina is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with over 20 years of experience in nursing and more than a decade in advanced psychiatric practice. Since 2015, she has worked in collaborative, physician-led treatment settings, providing thoughtful, evidence-based care to patients across the lifespan.

She began her psychiatric career with the University of Virginia’s Department of Psychiatry, where she worked in outpatient, crisis, and long-term care settings with children, adolescents, adults, and older adults. Most recently, she provided psychiatric care to young adults at the University of Virginia Counseling Center.

Gina has extensive experience treating mood and anxiety disorders, including depression, bipolar disorder, OCD, and PTSD, as well as personality disorders and developmental trauma. She also has strong expertise in diagnostic evaluation and the management of ADHD and other forms of neurodivergence.

Her approach to care is grounded in both clinical expertise and genuine curiosity about each patient’s lived experience. She values shared decision-making and works collaboratively with patients to create a treatment plan that feels thoughtful, realistic, and aligned with their goals. Gina strives to create a space where patients feel comfortable, heard, and empowered in their care.

She has a special interest in women’s mental health across the lifespan, as well as working with LGBTQ+ populations. Her work integrates evidence-based strategies that support both mental and physical health, with an emphasis on long-term resilience.

Outside of work, Gina enjoys spending time with her three boys, staying active, and being outdoors with family and friends.
